Rutgers University - Newark Wikidata Edit-A-Thon
Join librarians from John Cotton Dana Library for a Wikidata Edit-a-Thon in honor of Rutgers University–Newark’s 80th anniversary.
This edit-a-thon will focus on improving and expanding profiles in Wikidata for Activists, Artists, and Academics from and within Newark. Together, we will identify and document people, places, and community organizations that have made meaningful contributions to the Arts, Academia, and Activism in Newark and the surrounding community. Wikidata acts as the central structured data repository that supports Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects.
Everyone is welcome! No prior Wikidata editing experience is required. We will provide an introduction to Wikidata and hands-on guidance for editing and enhancing existing entries.
All Rutgers–Newark students, faculty, staff, and community members are encouraged to participate. The edit-a-thon will be held in a computer lab, so no laptop is required (though you are welcome to bring one).
Pay Per Pie: How Restrictive Platforms Require More for the Same Crust
Join Wikimedia New York City and Electronic Frontier Foundation on Tuesday, October 20th from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Prime Produce for a social gathering and community discussion about the invisible cost of knowledge. Accessing and sharing knowledge should be a human right but increasingly we see restrictive platforms demand users give up privacy and speech rights in order to access essential services. Come hang out with us during Open Access Week as we hear from experts in the field on this topic. The discussion and Q&A will be followed by a social networking hour; food and drinks will be provided.
