You don’t need to know how to edit Wikipedia or understand the whole Wikimedia universe before coming to an event.
Wikimedia NYC hosts workshops, edit-a-thons, meetups, talks, and community gatherings across New York City. Some people come ready to contribute. Others come because they’re curious about local history, photography, archives, technology, open knowledge, or the people making it all happen.
Become a Member
Make it official.
For $5 a year, membership gives you a more direct role in the Wikimedia NYC community and helps support the programs, gatherings, and projects happening across New York City.
Members can participate in organizational life, including voting in board elections and at member meetings, while staying connected to opportunities throughout the year.
It’s a small annual contribution with a bigger purpose: helping keep this community active, accessible, and growing.
Volunteer
Bring what you know. Learn what you don’t.
You don’t have to know everything about Wikipedia to be useful here. Volunteers help make events, workshops, documentation, outreach, photography, editing, and community projects possible.
If you’re interested in learning by doing, Wikicurious is a great place to begin. Explore opportunities, build your skills, and find ways to contribute alongside other curious humans.

Discord is our online community space where you can connect with Wikimedia NYC between or even at events. Think of it as a group chat with different rooms for conversations, questions, announcements, and shared interests.
Drop in to ask a question, see what others are working on, share an idea, or simply follow along until you’re ready to join the conversation.
